Master’s Weekend May 2021
Expressions of interest are now being sought from members to join the Master in May 2021 on an architectural weekend in Prague. The weekend is currently planned to begin on Thursday evening 13 May and end Sunday afternoon 16 May and will be confirmed later.
The Master first visited Prague on an architecture student exchange in 1968 and is arranging a weekend exploring the City’s rich architectural heritage and recent developments along with Czech architect friends and contacts. Meetings earlier this year in Prague between the Master and these contacts have allowed the opening of many amazing doors that would otherwise be closed to the general tourist, so, even if you have visited the city before, you will be shown a little of what lies behind the scenes and off the beaten track. Organised trips guided by fluent English-speaking guides and architects are being planned to include visits to the new Centre of Architecture and Urban Planning, many Secessionist and Czech Cubist Buildings, the Art Deco private suites of the Mayors of Prague, the Hradčany Castle complex including the vineyard, the Wallenstein Gardens, the newly regenerated area of Karlín likened to Prague’s equivalent of the London Docklands area, Holešovice and its Centre for Contemporary Art.
There will be of course be music from Jazz to Dvořák, a river trip on the Vltava, a variety of restaurants and cafes in period and modern venues, not to mention wonderful Czech beers and wines.
Depending upon the amount of interest, there is a variety of amazing hotels to choose from fine art nouveau confections to state-of-the-art modern.
Certainly a very different Prague from the grey communist one the Master first experienced 51 years ago!
